The Wittenborner Heide nature reserve remained nutrient-poor and unfertilized due to its previous use as a military training area. This resulted in a diverse landscape of heathland, moors and sparse forests that provide a habitat for many species. You can hike through a very beautiful landscape that is always worth a visit.

The Wittenborn Heath was a military training area for a long time, so the area was never used intensively for agriculture until 2009. As a result, the soil remained largely nutrient-poor and is now covered with beautiful heathland.

The Barker Heide is a nature reserve in Schleswig-Holstein. It is located in the district of Segeberg in the area of the communities of Bark, Hartenholm and Todesfelde. The nature reserve borders on the Segeberg Forest. This former heathland is now largely reforested. The Barker Heide is one of the few focal points of heathland protection in Schleswig-Holstein and represents one of the most threatened habitats in this federal state.
