As you climb the old, winding path through the colorful town of Bosa, you already feel that something special awaits you. Between the colorful house facades and the winding streets, the imposing Castello Malaspina, which towers high above the city, inevitably attracts your attention. Every step you take on this historic climb is not only a movement upward, but also a journey through time. When you finally reach the remains of this mighty fortification, a panorama that is second to none opens up before you. From here you can see the entire city, see the Temo River winding through the valley like a silver ribbon, and if the weather is good you can even see the sparkling blue of the sea. This castle, built in 1112 by the Tuscan noble family Malaspina dello Spino Secco, hides not only its architectural beauty but also mysterious legends. The stories about the jealous Marchese, who cut off his wife's fingers out of anger and madness, cast the walls of the castello in an even more intense light. Legend has it that some of the castle's rocks are the fossilized fingers or stone witnesses to this gruesome incident. But it's not just the old walls and legends that make this castle special - inside there's a small church with impressive frescoes that tell the stories of bygone times. And as you walk through these historic halls, you will be accompanied by the feeling that time has stood still here, high above Bosa.

The houses to your left and right glow in every color imaginable, as if an artist had spilled his palette over them. Welcome to Bosa, the hidden gem on Sardinia's west coast. Start your walk in the beating heart of the Centro Storico. Here, every step takes you deeper into the maze of narrow streets that wind their way up the slope. Flower pots made from old tin cans, creatively and lovingly designed by local residents, line your path and give the alleys a unique flair. As you continue to stroll through the old town, you will be accompanied by an ensemble of historic buildings, cozy restaurants and small shops. Every corner, every niche invites you to discover and linger. And despite its beauty, Bosa has retained its authentic charm and remains a place that is not overrun with tourists. But the real highlight awaits you at the end of your exploration tour: the climb to Castello Malaspina. Even if the way up requires a little effort, you will be rewarded with an incomparable panorama at the top. The view sweeps over the roofs of Bosa, along the Temo River to the horizon.

The origins of the Cattedrale dell'Immacolata Concezione date back to the Middle Ages, probably in the 12th century, but its current appearance dates back to the 19th century and the charm is linked to the original mix of different styles. The Cathedral of Bosa, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, is the co-cathedral of the Diocese of Alghero-Bosa and rises almost next to the right bank of the Temo River, along which stretches the medieval Sa Costa district. As you walk through the narrow streets of the village with colorful houses, you will suddenly see the imposing profile of the cathedral and the facade with late baroque and neoclassical taste, divided into two orders separated by a projecting cornice with red pilasters and pilasters Trachyte. Once through the entrance you will see a plan showing a single nave with a barrel vault divided into bays and facing four chapels on each side. The first chapel on the right will actually appear like a church in its own right: called the “great chapel of the Sacred Heart,” it is decorated with side altars and its presbytery is raised and vaulted. The main presbytery is also elevated, accessed by a staircase with two marble lions at the base and covered by a dome grafted onto an octagonal drum. The main altar houses the statues of the patron saints of Bosa, Emilio and Priamo. Along the walls of the sanctuary you will notice an impressive series of tempera paintings depicting Dante's Paradise, created in the biennium 1877-78 by the Parma artist Emilio Scherer. The bell tower, made entirely of red trachyte, was never completed. An incised date of 1683 testifies to a construction phase of which there are no other traces. From 1803, the cathedral was the subject of long and impressive restoration work that fundamentally changed its structure and appearance, while interior decoration work continued throughout most of the 19th century. The imposing castle complex lies above Bosa and offers a great view over the roofs of the city and the Temo all the way to the sea. It was built in 1112 on the top of the Serravalle mountain by the Tuscan noble family Malaspina dello Spino Secco, who settled on the island in the mid-11th century. It is said that the jealous Marchese built an underpass from the castle to the cathedral so that his beautiful wife could walk to the church away from prying eyes. One day, in a fit of rage, he cut off her fingers and wrapped them in a handkerchief, which he took out of his pocket in front of his friends after forgetting his madness. When the fingers fell to the ground, he was discovered and imprisoned. According to legend, some of the rocks in the castle are said to be the fossilized fingers or the stone witnesses to the horror. A fresco cycle probably dating from 1345 was discovered here during restoration in 1972. Definitely worth seeing!
