It is a complex of buildings enclosed by a wall, the historic block of which extends in a U-shape along the east-west axis. Despite neglect and numerous changes in use, which have led to extensive renovations, the interior still retains highly valuable spaces, with stuccoed and frescoed rooms depicting architectural motifs and mythological episodes, vaulted ceilings, generally pavilion-shaped masonry, or false reed vaults, or wooden coffered ceilings.

Created in the late 18th century, they are one of the first examples of an "English" garden in Northern Italy, featuring historic features and prized species. The gardens extend over 40 hectares around the Royal Villa. Behind the Serrone, which borders the geometric garden currently dedicated to the rose garden, lies the area landscaped in the "English" style. This seemingly spontaneous landscape, however, is actually the result of a precise overall design by architect Giuseppe Piermarini.

Villa Mirabello, a wonderful example of 17th-century architecture and residence, was built in the mid-17th century by the Durini family, who had purchased the fiefdom of Monza in 1648. The Durinis built a beautiful villa, with large halls for parties and receptions, named "Mirabello." Its U-shaped structure, open to the river landscape and featuring a courtyard, is of great structural significance, as it marks the transition from the typology of the walled country palace, typical of the 15th and 16th centuries, to the new concept of the palace-villa opening onto a scenic garden or park.

River, left tributary of the Po (130 km). It rises from Monte Forcella (942 m), in Vallassina, and, after passing through Asso and other towns, flows into Lake Pusiano. After leaving this lake, it receives the Alserio, passes through Monza and flows in a NW-SE direction, until it empties into the Po. At its mouth, it is fed by a right tributary, the L. Meridionale. It is used for irrigation.

The Royal Villa's pond features a system of water features that dates back to the Habsburg era, when the Swan Lake was created in the Royal Gardens between 1778 and 1783, designed by Piermarini himself. Along with all the scenic elements characteristic of the English garden created for the palace commissioned by Maria Theresa of Austria, such as the neoclassical temple, the grotto with the statue of Neptune, and the so-called swan house, the artificial pond also featured a hydraulic system to create jets and water effects, which has now been inoperative for decades.

The climb with its hairpin bends is nice. It's a miniature, cyclable mountain pass.

You never forget your first climb as a teenager. It felt like a real climb. I always enjoy going back. It's a great way to warm up your legs and move on to other climbs.
