Guido Häfner's 2022 sculpture "Guardian" – with a spectacular view (perfect photo opportunity!) of Hambach Castle "The imposing stelae made of solid Corten steel make a striking statement in their surroundings. The rusted surface of the material lends the sculptures a rustic yet modern aesthetic, which is further enhanced by their prominent presence. In the stylized form of the guardian or wanderer, the viewer is invited to reflect on the meaning of preservation and protection. The fragmented, negated figure offers the possibility of becoming part of the sculpture oneself and thus developing a personal relationship with the art. The message of the sculptures is thus brought to a very personal level and encourages the viewer to commit to the beauty and preservation of nature." This artwork, entitled "To See Beyond," is part of the "St. Martin Art Trail" and dates from 2023. "London-based artist Tim Norris draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape and, wherever possible, uses local natural materials in combination with constructed elements. As a harmonious symbiosis of landscape and art, the work invites visitors to enjoy the expansive view across the Rhine plain. It consists of an inner layer of stretched canvas, which offers protection and shade to the seated figure, while the outer layer of local vine tendrils alludes to the surrounding wine region. 'To See Beyond' translates to 'to see beyond.' We can interpret this as the view across the Rhine plain or, philosophically, as the perspective from the present into the future."
