The castle was probably built at the end of the 11th century. Around 1150, the von Olbrück family—the presumed builders—died out, passing the castle to the Counts of Wied. Today, the castle is leased to the municipality of Brohltal and is one of the region's tourist attractions. The tower is accessible, and in good weather, you can enjoy a magnificent view. According to the inscription, the massive granite cross commemorates Johannes Schneider. I could not gather any further information from the inscription,

Beautiful circular trail in the Vinxtbachtal

The view from this spot allows you to see two highlights at once: Directly in front of you, the water surface of the "Rodder Maar" glitters, a popular destination for hikers or walkers, and from the wooded mountain in the background rises the (rebuilt) tower of the Olbrück, also a striking landmark of this region.
