Whether the view from the castle or from Bernkastel-Kues to the castle, both perspectives are worthwhile.

Probably the best view of the Moselle loop and Bernkastel-Kues is from the keep of Landshut Castle (only when the restaurant is open and €1 is paid at the vending machine). But even from the castle courtyard, the view is breathtaking.

Landshut Castle is the ruins of a hilltop castle. It was built at the end of the 13th century by Heinrich von Finstingen, Archbishop of Trier. Today, it features an external elevator. The castle's renovation is still underway. The keep can be climbed. For entry, a ticket must be purchased from the vending machine in the castle courtyard (€1). Only accessible during the castle restaurant's opening hours.

The square is characterized by its unique grace and dignity, setting it apart from other market squares in Germany, as it combines attractive coziness with carefree cheerfulness, thus becoming the town's living room. It also serves as its ballroom, the focal point and heart of its life. The 400-year-old half-timbered houses, the Renaissance Town Hall (1608), the St. Michael's Fountain (1606), and the much-admired, charming "Pointed House" (1416) reflect the living poetry of the Middle Ages. The filigree work of the fountain grille, the ornaments and colorful beam drawings in the half-timbering of the houses, and the ornate weather vanes on the roof gables still bear eloquent witness to the town's former prosperity and history. Great view across the Moselle to the castle. Landshut Castle is the ruins of a hilltop castle in Bernkastel-Kues in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district of Rhineland-Palatinate. Landshut Castle is located on the western slope of the Hunsrück above Bernkastel, a district of Bernkastel-Kues. It stands on the approximately 235 m above sea level[1] high castle hill, a northern spur of Mount Olympus (415 m above sea level).[1] The Moselle, flowing toward the castle from the southwest, turns northwest below the castle (approx. 107 m above sea level).[1] This allows travelers traveling upstream and downstream along the Moselle to see the castle on the horizon from afar.
