Cevio is the capital of Vallemaggia, nevertheless its size is small. The suggestive central streets are worth a visit.

Our "supply station". A nice village with a supermarket. In the Albergo della Posta, outside on the piazza, the Prosecco is served in chilled glasses.

Grossalp hut is immersed in the eponymous mountain pasture. This dream place is surrounded by wide prairies, on the horizon the mountains frame this beautiful picture, making it breathtaking.

The Grossalphütte is located next to the alp of the same name at 1907 m above sea level. and offers a wonderful view of the Walser village of Bosco Gurin. The structure, owned by UTOE Locarno, has 26 beds (2 rooms for 4, 1 for 8 and 1 for 10) and is an excellent starting point for numerous excursions during the summer season. In winter the hut is transformed into a restaurant on the slopes with the possibility of an overnight stay.

Today you can admire the wealth of well-preserved historical evidence in the village, including the village square surrounded by houses from the 19th century. The village consists of several hamlets, spread over almost 3 km, some of which are worth seeing. Particularly interesting are the 19th century buildings lined up in the beautiful village square and the large mansions of the old village center of Cevio. The Ethnographic Museum of the Maggia Valley has been set up in two of these houses, which formerly belonged to the Franzoni family.

The two-lane cable car built in the 1960s is a combination of trains for the transport of people and heavy loads. To this day it is one of the most impressive cable cars in Europe. It has seven high cable car masts on its approximately 4-kilometer route. The cable car has been open to the public since 1972 and transports over 20,000 people to Robiei every summer with a 96-person cabin. The valley station is located in San Carlo in the Bavona Valley, accessible by public transport or about 1 hour by car from Locarno.

From the summit is just in April a great picture, as you look south into the snow-filled flanks of the next mountain range and has a great view to the Valais with its four-thousander. The Pilone (2192m) is also a border mountain between Switzerland and Italy.
