For decades, Wankelburg was the name of the workplace for many Plaidt residents. As early as 1808, a company began mining basalt and producing paving stones here. Over the years, the company continued to develop, with new products and manufacturing methods. In 1950, there were still 186 workers in the Plaidt and Andernach plants. From 1978, precast concrete parts were produced on the site, which had since changed significantly.
