The beach promenade, with its decorative elements, shops, and events, is definitely worth a look. It can also be quite entertaining to relax and enjoy the hustle and bustle after a walk, with a drink.

Since May 2012, the Ordinance on the Prohibition of Navigation in Neustädter Bucht with Certain Vehicles (NeustädterBuchtFzgV) has also been in effect. It stipulates a sound limit for motorboats and jet skis.

Since January 2007, a speed limit for recreational boats has been in effect to improve the safety of bathers and sailors. According to the regulations of the Northern Waterways and Shipping Directorate, motorboats and personal watercraft are not permitted to travel faster than 15 km/h in a two-kilometer-wide strip along the coast from Travemünde to Neustadt.

At the end of the Second World War, on May 3, 1945, Neustadt Bay became tragically known for one of the greatest maritime disasters: the sinking of the concentration camp prisoner ship Cap Arcona, which claimed 4,600 lives; the Thielbek, which carried 2,800 prisoners, almost all of whom perished; and the Deutschland, which also claimed many lives. Neustadt is home to a Cap Arcona Museum. Remains of the extensive chemical weapons and munitions sinkings from that period are still being recovered today.

Neustadt Bay is the western part of the Bay of Lübeck, which in turn is part of the Bay of Mecklenburg in the Baltic Sea. It is located in the German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein. The pier even has diving boards and a slide. The dog beach is located between Neustadt and Pelzerhaken.
