Shortly before reaching Neustadt, a narrow path leads through the inland waterway... Parts of it are now silted up and are occupied by cattle pastures...

The Neustadt inland water is a lake that dried up partly due to silting and partly artificially. The lake originally extended far beyond the A1, for the construction of which the former lake bed was filled. The inland water was also important for the first settlers in this region, who fished here. Some evidence of this was found in the Neustadt harbor. The lake is mainly fed by fresh water, but there has only been a narrow connection to the Baltic Sea - incidentally, only for 2000 years.

The city of Neustadt was founded and built according to plan. Therefore, even from a distance, it offers an atmospheric and dense cityscape.

The compact old town core of Neustadt in Holstein with its pagoda storehouse and the evangelical town church originally dedicated to Francis of Assisi can be viewed very well from the left-hand and mostly natural bank of the inland water.
