The tower bay window impressively enlivens the mighty building. The simple half-timbering impresses with its ornamental clarity. The half-timbering is decorated with diamond motifs and curved bands. The half-timbered main floor and gable floors of today's town hall were built in 1687 on the renovated walls of a wine press. This wine press was documented as early as 1541 and had previously formed the ground floor of a previous town hall. This predecessor building, dating from 1590-1599, burned down during the Thirty Years' War (1643), just like St. John's Church. The predecessor building was probably built between 1590 and 1599. A partially preserved date on the southern arched portal supports this assumption. A wine press with two trees, maintained by the duke, and a house above it, is documented as early as 1541. A "tree" refers to a long, horizontal piece of wood used to turn the spindle of the grape press. The building, erected around 1590, was thus already the successor to an earlier building on this site. A wooden plaque above the main entrance provides information about the 1687 reconstruction. This inscription, with the letters "SHSSR" and "BIW," suggests the then mayor, Jakob Schmalzried, and the then mayor, Jakob Wetzel. The carpenter's tools depicted below and the inscription "MW" indicate the carpenter, whose name is no longer known. The number "1687" indicates the year of construction. The administrative offices were located densely packed above the wine press. Since 1728, these were accessible via an external staircase that replaced a steep interior staircase. This staircase was removed in 1884. Until the renovation in 1956 and 1957, six oak columns supported the ceiling of the wine press floor. They were removed, and a mezzanine and a curved interior staircase were installed. This created a new mezzanine with office space, recognizable from the outside by the newly added additional row of windows. The road is currently closed west of Porsche Gate South (the highest point of the section). It is not passable.

Really, only use it as an exit. I drove up it and was overtaken several times, despite the curve and oncoming traffic. The drivers are really painless. The oncoming traffic never honked; they're apparently used to it.
