The Freshford walking loop is a 5.6 km (3.5 mile) waymarked walking loop through the countryside and along the river to the west of Freshford. It's waymarked with purple arrows and includes about 90 m (295 ft) of ascent. You'll walk through woodland and across fields, on a clear day there are nice views of the Gathabown and the Castlecomer Hills.

Rothe House & Garden in Kilkenny is a remarkable historical gem dating back to 1594, originally built by John Rothe Fitz-Piers, a wealthy merchant. This three-house complex provides a fascinating glimpse into medieval life in Kilkenny, offering beautifully restored rooms and a meticulously recreated period garden with herbs, fruit trees, and flowers from that era. Visitors can explore artifacts uncovered from the 17th century, such as pottery and coins, giving insight into the daily life of the time. Rothe House is not just a museum but a peaceful escape, offering a contrast to the grandeur of nearby Kilkenny Castle. The Black Abbey in Kilkenny, founded in 1225, is a beautifully restored Dominican monastery with a rich history. Its name comes from the "Black Friars," as the Dominicans were known due to their black cloaks.
