The castle was probably built at the end of the 11th century. Around 1150, the von Olbrück family—the presumed builders—died out, passing the castle to the Counts of Wied. Today, the castle is leased to the municipality of Brohltal and is one of the region's tourist attractions. The tower is accessible, and in good weather, you can enjoy a magnificent view. The Calvary in the Eifel town of Kempenich is an impressive testimony to popular piety. It combines several highlights: + A classic Way of the Cross with the 14 stations commemorating the suffering and death of Jesus Christ + A second Stations of the Cross dedicated to the seven sorrows of Mary + A chapel on the mountain, in the apse there is a Pieta flanked by angels + A Lourdes grotto

The ascent and descent are particularly worth seeing, as the tower can always be seen from new perspectives.

"A memorial stone commemorates the old village chapel, which, like all the buildings in the village, was razed to the ground by the Nazi government in 1939 to make room for an air force training area." https://www.osteifel-aktiv.de/40839/708401.html Rudolf Leisen reported extensively on the "Ahrbrück Air Force Training Area" in the 1997 local yearbook of the Ahrweiler district 👉 http://www.kreis.aw-online.de/kvar/VT/hjb1997/hjb1997.32.htm

"The Kempenich station used to be the terminus of the Brohltalbahn, today the station is closed and the Brohltalbahn ends in Engeln. At the end of the 1920s, the Brohltalbahn had a single-storey extension built on Burgstrasse. After rail operations to Kempenich were discontinued in 1974, the operating buildings remained unused for the time being. Chronicle: + On January 12, 1901, the first train arrived at Engeln station. + From May 1, 1901, it was possible to travel to the Weibern freight station. + On January 7, 1902, the first train traveled via Weibern to Kempenich station. + On October 1, 1974, the Engeln - Weibern - Kempenich section of the line was closed. In 1976, the tracks were completely dismantled. Apart from the Weibern stop building (now the Tuffsteinmuseum) and the Kempenich station building, nothing remains of the old route. ..." << Steinrausch Adventure Forest >> "From the "high seat" to the "animal long jump", this path never lets you get bored. It's exciting to take part in the 1.7 km long nature adventure trail, because there's action at eight different play stations. And at nine varied information stations, adults and children alike can learn a lot about the local flora, fauna and geology in the area of the former Steinrausch volcano. Ideal for families with children and school classes who want to get excited about nature in 2-3 hours." https://www.eifel.info/a-erlebniswald-steinrausch

During the Nazi era, it was planned that the village of Lederbach would be demolished and used for air force exercises. In 1939, the chapel was demolished. This monument by the village pond commemorates the former church, which has been incorporated into the basalt column as a relief image.
