The small town is very attractive and has a train station, which many people know from trips to the North Frisian Islands, as well as good shopping opportunities and much more to offer

The Nolde Museum shows a cross-section of the complete works of the painter Emil Nolde (1867-1956) every year: paintings, watercolors, drawings, graphics, “unpainted pictures” – a total of around 180 works. Emil Nolde had the six-meter-long and seven-meter-wide picture room built as an upper floor on top of his studio in 1937. In doing so, he fulfilled, as he said, “a lifelong wish”. Here, surrounded by his works, he received friends and guests and showed them his newest or favorite paintings. Nowhere else can you get as close to Emil Nolde’s perspective as in this picture room. He is the center of the annual exhibitions, which change every year, with over 30 newly presented paintings. All of the pictures are framed in strict, dark frames and arranged in two rows. This may seem confusing at first glance, but this unusually dense hanging corresponds to Nolde’s intention. "In the middle of the countryside" is no great surprise. To the west of Süderlügum there is almost exclusively reclaimed land. I once read that 100 years ago you could take a boat from Aventoft to Leck. Lecker used to be a port town (Lecker Au). This is a wonderful path to the Ladelund concentration camp memorial and meeting place. The path roughly corresponds to the route of the anti-tank ditch that forced laborers wanted to dig over 13 km to Humptrup. The meeting place was beautifully redesigned in 2018 and contains information for various ways of dealing with the topic. By the way, it is also very nice to drive to the Schwesing memorial on the Geest. I have already done that myself. The Kolkerheide near Löwenstedt is similar to the landscape near Süderlügum.

The Nolde Museum shows works by the German painter Emil Nolde (1867-1956). The museum was opened in 1957 after Nolde's death on his property. The garden is an individual work of garden art designed by Nolde himself.

On the Ochsenweg back to Leck. If you don't like the soft sand, you can walk the solid parallel path.
