The Nössedeich is a 13-kilometer-long sea dike on the southeast coast of the island of Sylt. It was built in 1936/37 by the Reich Labor Service to protect the meadows and settlements on the southern Nösse peninsula from flooding. The dike stretches from the eastern tip of the island, east of Morsum, to the dike of the Rantum Basin south of Tinnum. The Nössedeich offers ideal conditions for cyclists and hikers who want to experience Sylt's pristine nature. Sheep often graze along the dike, and in spring, visitors can observe newborn lambs. The route is less frequented than other cycle paths on the island, so you can often enjoy the scenery undisturbed. A special highlight along the Nössedeich is the Katrevel near Morsum. Here, several small lakes have formed from a former estuary, serving as habitats for numerous bird species. A wooden jetty invites you to linger and offers ideal conditions for nature observation and photography. On the other side of the dike is a bathing area, especially inviting for swimming during high tide. In summer, beach chairs are set up there, inviting you to relax with a view of the Wadden Sea.

The route through the Morsum cliff is marked out on wide paths and cyclists find their way along the "Nösse Kuhle" lake. Cyclists can then dismount and look at the white-brown cliff and the heath and reed landscape. The way back goes via Africa: the slope dominated by sand creates the feeling of being in Africa.
