Wall with crenellated corner towers, second half of the 19th century

The well-preserved courtyard housed the Böhm family bakery until the late 1960s. Furthermore, the family continuously provided the local mayors from 1909 to 1946, who conducted their official business from this location. The courtyard is listed in the register of historical monuments of the Mainz-Bingen district. Böhm Wine Tavern, postcard excerpt from 1906 Image source: Willi Buchert View from the former wine tavern. The year 1887 is visible on the wall post. Image source: Böhm Family The three-sided farmstead at Gaustraße 11 dates from the 19th century and is impressive due to its excellent state of preservation. The building on the right was erected in the early 19th century and, apart from the upper gable walls, is of solid construction. A barrel-vaulted cellar lies beneath part of the house. The dormer window on the long facade was added around 1900. The barn at the rear of the courtyard also contains timber framing and likely dates from the early 19th century. To the left is a two-story brick house built in the Gründerzeit style. The year 1887 is visible on a brick post in a photograph; this could be the year it was built. At the end of the 19th century, the property belonged to the Hessler family. During this time, Johann Adam Böhm I, a baker from the Odenwald region, married into the family. The farm is still owned by the descendants of the Böhm family today. The Böhm family operated a wine tavern in the building on the right, at least until the early years of the last century. View of the farm at Gaustraße 11, presumably before World War II. Image source: Böhm family Returning home from fieldwork with the "Plugskarrn" (plow cart). Behind the horse, a smaller axle (protze) could be used to pull either a single-axle cart with a seat or a farm implement. Image source: Böhm family The farm had its own vineyards, and the wine sold was produced on the farm. Until the late 1960s, the bakery, also run by the family, was located in the building on the left. The oven, fired with briquettes and vine wood, was also located there.

Harxheimer Weinstube Owner: Martina Herzog Enggasse 1 | 55296 Harxheim Tel. 06138 941 46 52 www.harxheimer-weinstube.de Mail@harxheimer-weinstube.de Open: Thurs.-Mon. 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM (Kitchen open until 9:00 PM) | Closed: Tues. & Wed. The main building was formerly a barn, and the adjoining winegrower's parlor was a residential building. There are 70 seats inside, and another 40 in the courtyard. A place with a special atmosphere, characterized by laughter, life, and the joy of a long time. It is the tradition, the homeland, the connection to the earth that define Rheinhessen, Harxheim, and also the wine bar. Everything revolves around conviviality and well-being. Beautiful moments at large and small tables, space for good humor, conversation, joy, and even celebration. Great Rheinhessen wines and a love of home on the plate. (…) The wine bar concept is: "What we prepare with love in our pans and pots must complement the wines of the region." So, first the wine, then the cuisine. The wine list is accordingly well-stocked. The list of wines by the glass alone includes more than 30 offerings from Rheinhessen, all of which are available as a "Piffchen" (little glass) or a "Schoppen" (glass).
