By the way: The body of water was first mentioned in documents in 764 as super fluuium Salusiam. Since no salt extraction has been proven on the Selz, the name is probably derived from the ancient Celtic word *salā for "dirt" or Old High German salo "dark" and refers to the color of the water.

The Selz is a 61 km long, southern and left tributary of the Rhine and one of the main waterways in Rhenish Hesse. In the 18th century, the mill was the Würschweiler Mahlmühl and belonged to the Würschweiler Abbey (near Homburg in Saarland). In 1795, the mill and adjacent fields were purchased by the Darmstadt family. In 1812, the family tore down the old mill and built a new one on the property.
