The perfect overnight stay on the ridge path because of the evening and morning atmosphere. When the weather is nice, you have a wonderful view of what you have hiked and what is to come. Nice rooms and good cuisine at moderate prices.

A small trail over the rocks leads to quiet vantage points.

In May 1883, an 18-metre-high iron lookout tower on the Drei Brüderhöhe was inaugurated by the Marienberg branch of the Ore Mountains. It was built by Maschinenfabrik C. Reinsch from Dresden at a price of around 6000 Reichsmarks. The tower, named in 1884 after the deceased wife of the then Prince George of Saxony Princess-Marien-Turm, soon became very popular as an excursion destination. The observation tower was closed for a long time by the building authorities. He was also not far from the restricted area at the military training area of the "National People's Army". It was therefore demolished and scrapped on March 11, 1977. The city of Marienberg had a new, 25.4 meter high observation tower built on the Drei Brüderhöhe, which was inaugurated on May 12, 1994 and allows a good view of Marienberg and the charming landscape up to the Fichtelberg and Keilberg.

The year was 1878 when the Marienberg branch of the Ore Mountains was founded. One of the founding members, namely Gustav Loose, set up a restaurant in the former hat house "Alte Drei Brüder". This retreat soon became very popular, not least because of the Princess Marien Tower, which had been completed three years previously. Generations of hikers and day trippers have been able to enjoy a magnificent panoramic view here. The Berghaus "Dreibrüderhöhe", as it was called at the time, remained in the hands of the Loose family until 1977. When the house was managed by Gustav Loose, there was also a rarity available. You could buy and enjoy the “GuLo” (Gustav Loose) brand cigars produced in-house. The house was in the hands of Helmut Loose for over 30 years, who then sold it to the Marienberg building management company in 1977.

Not here anymore

Great views of the Pressnitz Dam and the surrounding area... It's possible to park your car at the dam and start the climb up the mountain from there. Or you can start the hike from Schmalzgrube, as I did.
