The perfect overnight stay on the ridge path because of the evening and morning atmosphere. When the weather is nice, you have a wonderful view of what you have hiked and what is to come. Nice rooms and good cuisine at moderate prices.

The year was 1878 when the Marienberg branch of the Ore Mountains was founded. One of the founding members, namely Gustav Loose, set up a restaurant in the former hat house "Alte Drei Brüder". This retreat soon became very popular, not least because of the Princess Marien Tower, which had been completed three years previously. Generations of hikers and day trippers have been able to enjoy a magnificent panoramic view here. The Berghaus "Dreibrüderhöhe", as it was called at the time, remained in the hands of the Loose family until 1977. When the house was managed by Gustav Loose, there was also a rarity available. You could buy and enjoy the “GuLo” (Gustav Loose) brand cigars produced in-house. The house was in the hands of Helmut Loose for over 30 years, who then sold it to the Marienberg building management company in 1977.

Great views of the Pressnitz Dam and the surrounding area... It's possible to park your car at the dam and start the climb up the mountain from there. Or you can start the hike from Schmalzgrube, as I did.

The Hirtsteinbaude was built by the branch association of the Erzgebirgsverein and was opened as an accommodation house on December 17, 1926. The ceremonial consecration took place on September 11, 1927. The construction costs were around 30,000 Reichsmarks. Source: Wikipedia
