10月 7, 2025, Hölzbachklamm Forest Trail
The Hölzbach Gorge is the absolute highlight and namesake of the Traumschleife Hunolsteiner Gorge Tour, a highly varied premium circular hiking trail in the Hunsrück. This section is an impressive, approximately 800-meter-long stretch of untouched nature, located in the last third of the trail, just before the Hölzbach flows into the Dhron. The path through the deeply cut, gorge-like ravine is a wildly romantic experience, where the gurgling and bubbling water of the stream creates a cool and almost magical soundscape that surrounds the hiker. Here, the stream winds its way between slate cliffs and large boulders, forming rapids and small waterfalls, and providing a cool home for ferns and mosses. The gorge is accessed on narrow paths that require surefootedness and sturdy footwear; in some more challenging sections, there are even ropes for support to make the ascent easier. Crossing the Hölzbachklamm is the most intense and wildest part of the entire tour and leaves hikers with a lasting impression of the primal power of the Hunsrück nature.

7月 20, 2025, Walholzkirche
From here, you have a beautiful view of the Walholz Church. A window provides a great photo opportunity. The Walholz Church: In a meadow valley between Hunolstein and Weiperath stands a lonely church with an 800-year history: the Walholz Church. For over eight centuries, it served the residents of the surrounding villages for worship purposes. Dating from around 1130–1150, the Walholz Church was probably built as a small wooden church. In the 13th century, this was replaced by a stone church. The current building was built in 1760 as a conversion and extension of an older church that had become dilapidated and too small for the growing population. When the new church in Hunolstein was declared a parish church in 1909, the Walholz Church served only as a cemetery chapel until 1957. Today, the Walholz Chapel is often used for church weddings. In addition, cultural events also take place. More information at www.morbach.de/walholzkirche

7月 20, 2025, Traumschleife Hunolsteiner Klammtour
This tour starts at the Hunolsteiner Hof farm café, where it's worth stopping for a bite to eat at the end of the tour. In good weather, you can also sit outside. At the beginning of the tour, as is usual with the Saar-Hunsrück Dream Loops, is the entrance gate. A few minutes after starting at the "Hunolsteiner Hof" farm café, the largely destroyed castle of the former governors of Hunolstein is the first highlight of the hike. After walking a short distance through the town of Hunolstein, the trail descends into the Dhron Valley. The absolute highlight of the Dream Loop is the 800-meter-long, narrow path through the Hölzbach Gorge. The babbling stream flowing down the valley creates a dreamy audible backdrop. The relatively new "Häja Wiesn Schänke" refreshment station offers both alcoholic (proof of age required) and non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. Payment is based on trust, e.g., a credit card. Payment can be made in cash or via PayPal. Benches invite you to linger. The trail has been rated 82 points by the German Hiking Institute. Further information about the tour can be found at https://www.wanderinstitut.de/premiumwege/rheinland-pfalz/hunolsteiner-klammtour/

7月 20, 2025, Kunibert-Runde Ancient Oak Forest
Ancient oak trees stand on the rocky massif, having survived for centuries on the barren ground. Records show that the trees were planted in 1799. Because of the steep slope and the numerous boulders, timber was never logged here. Down in the valley, the Hölzbach Gorge can be seen and heard.

7月 20, 2025, Information Board at Burg Hunolstein
Count Folman II of Blieskastel had Hunolstein Castle built in 1192. Hugo, Vogt of Hunolstein, was the first to live there. His descendants remained at Hunolstein Castle until 1487, after which it fell into the possession of the Archbishopric of Trier and was administered by an electoral bailiff. When Franz von Sickingen unsuccessfully besieged the city of Trier in 1522, he also raided and plundered Hunolstein Castle. The castle was destroyed after the Thirty Years' War, presumably by the French in 1689. The stones of the remaining walls were used to build the village of Hunolstein. Today, the castle is owned by the municipality of Morbach, which has secured the ruins and expanded the inner courtyard in recent years (see the information panel at the entrance to the castle ruins). 7月 20, 2025, View of Dhron Valley from Friedhell
From here, you can see the Dhron Valley and the prominent Bocksberg. The border of the Burgfrieden district, the so-called Friedhell, once ran across the Bocksberg. The Dhron Valley slope near Hunolstein is still popularly known as Friedhell, meaning a pacified hill (by law or boundary). Several stories from long ago circulate around Hunolstein and the Hunolstein Gorge Tour, including one that is said to have taken place at this location: the story of the Electoral Waiter. The complete story of the legend of the Electoral Waiter of Bernkastel can be found online: www.morbach.de/kurfuerstlicher-kellner
