The building likely replaced an older town hall, which, like large parts of the town, was destroyed in a devastating fire in 1702 (only the administrative building survived). Tribsees was then part of Swedish Pomerania, and the town's reconstruction was supported by fundraising efforts in the Kingdom of Sweden.

The path now bears a "NO TRESPASSING" sign (June 2025), erected by the Western Pomerania Office for Agriculture and the Environment. It would be highly desirable if some money were invested here in the near future to officially reopen the only connection through the moor toward Tribsees!

The section of the JW VB hiking trail that passes through Richtenberg is part of the Greifenweg. This trail connects Bodstedt with Richtenberg and Franzburg and continues to Tribsees where it meets the Via Baltica.
