The path today (July 7, 2025) was machete-worthy: nettles, blackberry bushes (more than a man's height), thistles, grass. In places, it was so overgrown that one had to question the concept and definition of a path. Despite the Sleeping Beauty hedge experience, it was great. Long trousers and long-sleeved outerwear are recommended. The limbo training course after the nettle field behind the Moidenthin stop in the direction of the village of Mecklenburg was also a highlight.

The Wallensteingraben is a connecting ditch between Lake Schwerin and the Baltic Sea in Wismar. Its approximately 20-kilometer-long course overcomes a height difference of 37.8 meters. The watercourse so named today consists of the artificially created outflow of Lake Schwerin and the largely original course of the stream once called Stivine (or Steffine or Stevina, depending on the source). A canal built in the 16th century, which shortened the course of the stream over large sections, fell into disrepair just a few years after its construction.

The Wallensteingraben, with its shallow depth (in some places significantly less than 50 centimeters) and its natural bed, is only navigable by experienced canoeists when the water level is favorable. In addition to the well-known weirs and rapids, numerous fallen trees, particularly in the forest around Moidentin, impede the journey.
