In the heart of Ribnitz-Damgarten's picturesque harbor promenade stands an extraordinary work of art: "The Circus Is Coming"—an impressive bronze sculpture by the renowned sculptor Jo Jastram. A Gift to the City As a long-time supporter of regional art, the Lions Club Ribnitz-Damgarten was deeply committed to establishing this important work in the city. Out of a profound connection with the artist, the desire arose to create a large-scale sculpture that would not only commemorate Jo Jastram's artistic achievements but also enrich the city's cultural landscape. A suitable location was quickly found: The sculpture group was given its permanent place in 2005. In the fall of 2025, the path was well-paved and passable. The Ribnitz Great Moor is a rain-fed bog, meaning it is fed solely by precipitation, which is "held" by the moss. The moss grows as a result, bulges up, forms peat, and grows... if it isn't drained. Here, too, peat was dug and the bog drained. Today, a worthwhile excursion trail leads through it, with information boards and benches.
