Half a year after the end of the Second World War, the Barber-Lyaschenko Agreement shifted the border between Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein at this point.

During our hike from the Römnitzer Mühle to the Mechower See we stopped and observed the resting water birds.

Attention! In summer there is an absolute danger of mosquitoes.

Pure nature! Idyllically located. We passed the lake on our hike to Lake Salem.

It is autumn and so, in addition to the colorful leaves of the trees, we can observe many migratory birds such as cranes, geese and even lapwings. The easy circular route around the Mechower See offers a varied combination of nature and history.

Very nice rest area with a shelter. A large sign provides information about the LIVE Bombina project. Bombina bombina is the scientific name of the fire-bellied toad, a species threatened with extinction in Europe. According to European nature conservation law, the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive (FFH), this species is particularly protected and finds a particularly good habitat in the valleys below the rest area.
