The Granite City Greenway is an eight-mile-long paved trail that offers a scenic route around Mount Airy. It connects several parks, including Riverside Park, Tharrington Park, and HB Rowe Environmental Park. Along the way, visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of the Ararat River and Lovills Creek. The greenway is popular for walking, running, biking, and even kayaking, thanks to convenient access points to the water.

This district boasts a collection of beautifully preserved buildings that primarily date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Visitors can stroll along brick-lined streets, admiring the exquisite examples of Late Victorian and Bungalow/American Craftsman architecture. Many of the buildings once served as bustling commercial establishments, and their characterful facades retain a sense of old-world charm. Today, these historic structures house a variety of shops, restaurants, and cultural venues, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere.

Spring Valley Christmas Tree Farm offers nice views from Spring Valley Road of very satisfying rows of Christmas trees. The farm is part of the Spring Valley Rural Historic District.

Turkey Fork is the junction between Spring Valley Road and Elk Creek Parkway roads. There is not much here, but heading north brings bikers into Little Dry Run Wilderness, and heading south brings bikers back down to farm land, and after 12 miles, the town of Independence.

Riding by this area and hearing some sweet music fill the air? It's most likely coming from the road to Blue Ridge Music Center; just go east on Music Center Road. This area is not open every day, but check the schedule for events as it may lead to more traffic on the roads. This area is not only known for the concerts at the Blue Ridge Music Center but also for the beautiful Appalachian forests surrounding this natural amphitheater.

Galax is a town of music and movement. The New River Trail and the New River run through town and provide recreation and year-long entertainment. In terms of music, Felts Park is home to music events like the Old Fiddlers Convention, and Galax is home to Chestnut Creek School of the Arts. It's a bluegrass hub, and there are skilled craftsmen who hand-make musical instruments.

Fries, established in 1900 and pronounced "freeze," sits on the banks of the New River and is popular amongst recreationalists. The New River Trail State Park, extending for 57 miles, begins in downtown Fries.

Fries Historic Dam is easy to see and hear while riding on Scenic Road. This is also a popular fishing spot, but it is also a great lookout spot of New River and the forests around it.
