The Granite City Greenway is an eight-mile-long paved trail that offers a scenic route around Mount Airy. It connects several parks, including Riverside Park, Tharrington Park, and HB Rowe Environmental Park. Along the way, visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of the Ararat River and Lovills Creek. The greenway is popular for walking, running, biking, and even kayaking, thanks to convenient access points to the water.

This district boasts a collection of beautifully preserved buildings that primarily date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Visitors can stroll along brick-lined streets, admiring the exquisite examples of Late Victorian and Bungalow/American Craftsman architecture. Many of the buildings once served as bustling commercial establishments, and their characterful facades retain a sense of old-world charm. Today, these historic structures house a variety of shops, restaurants, and cultural venues, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere.

The Granite Quarry Overlook is located at Milepost 202.8 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. You get a great view of the foothills from here along with Pilot Mountain (on a clear day). Along with the view, there are some informational signs about the local flora.

There are a few foot-traffic only trails on the property, but the Smart View Recreation Area also offers multiple picnic areas (over 70), a historical cabin, and a paved road loop where cars are also allowed to drive. If you want to get on any of the trails, too, know that you'll have to lock the bikes up.

Groundhog Mountain isn't your classic peak with a big view, but it does offer a sizable picnic area and is a nice pit stop if you need a break on this section of the parkway.

Puckett Cabin is the old home of Aunt Orlean, a famous midwife from the 19th century who delivered over 1,000 babies during her 102-year life. The cabin can be found just off the side of the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 189.9. There is only enough room for a couple of cars at this pull off.
