In the wild: No other species of pig has such an extensive distribution area as the European-Asian wild boar. As an omnivore, it feeds on both plant and animal food. Like all pigs, wild boars have very poor eyesight. Their hearing and sense of smell, on the other hand, are extremely well developed, as they have to locate a large part of their food underground. The mating season of wild boars, the heat, usually takes place in November and December in the wild. After almost 4 months, the piglets are born in March. However, under good conditions, wild boars can also have offspring all year round. For the birth, the sow builds a "nest", the so-called cauldron. While the family members of domestic pigs are called boars, sows and piglets, in wild boars they are called boars, sows and piglets.
