This meal of honor was inaugurated in 1935 and was intended to commemorate the mine sweepers who died at sea between 1914 and 1918.
This commemoration was extended to the anti-mine fighters who perished at sea in the war years 1939-1945.
This memorial was erected to commemorate the fallen comrades.

The minesweeper memorial is located in the immediate vicinity of the Alte Liebe. The memorial, built by the Hamburg minesweeping comradeship, was inaugurated on June 9, 1935 (Whitsun) on the occasion of a minesweeper meeting. The memorial was designed by the then head of the Cuxhaven Blocking Equipment Office, Kapitänleutnant Erich Bodanowitz.
The memorial has a height of 4.5 m. The center of the structure is a real sea mine from the 1st World War.
The monument and the enclosing wall are related. The surrounding wall is designed as a parapet, with which the use of anti-mine fighters (mine seekers) is to be honored.
The entrance to the monument is sealed off with an iron chain.
In March 1981 the 80x50 cm bronze plate of the memorial was stolen. This theft was never solved. A new plate was made and attached. It bears the same inscription as the stolen copy:
"Where death threatens German war voyages from the depths, men work to ensure that the others should be free."
From 2005, the memorial was extensively restored by the specially founded association.

In the immediate vicinity of the Alte Liebe in Cuxhaven is the minesweeper's memorial, which was built by the Hamburg minesweeper association.
You can find more information on the homepage of the association for the promotion of minesweepers' memorial in Cuxhaven e.V.
The association has set itself the task of preserving, caring for and financially supporting the Cuxhaven minesweeper monument on the Alte Liebe in order to keep the population's memory of the navy people alive. These were commissioned to clear the mines.
