    Old Town Hall (possibly 1720) – Offstein/Alzey 🚴‍♂️

The town hall of the municipality of Offstein was first described in the inventory book of 1720: "Before Wald the common street, to the Rhine, bakehouse-farm-estate, adjoins the common street towards Bingen and Speyer." The keystone in the archway of the ground floor bears the date 1819 and presumably indicates the date of the renovation, but the actual construction period is unknown. The Baroque forms of the building allow a comparison with the Palatinate building type of so-called "chapel town halls," in which the ground floor is used as a chapel and the upper floor as the mayor's office. That this was planned or intended at the time of construction is rather unlikely, as it was only briefly used for church purposes; otherwise, the basement was temporarily used as a storage room, a blacksmith's shop, or a fire station, and sometimes also as a residence. The upper floor still houses the mayor's office and the council chamber. Today, the building is a listed building. 🚴‍♂️

The old town hall of Offstein is an interesting mansard hipped roof building, a gem of the community. rebuilt in 1819. The core of the building was built around 1600 and is a listed building. On the main street not far from the town hall is the fountain with the flute player.
