During the construction of the railway line Erbach – Fehl-Ritzhausen, the planners had thoroughly miscalculated with regard to the water coming down from the Stöffel.

At times got in the area of so-called. "Slide" large masses of earth in motion and slipped onto the track.

In other places, the water washed away the railway line.

To divert the water, various drainage systems were built for the track systems, including the so-called "Water Bridge".

The water was conducted over this bridge over the tracks from one side of the system to the other and could not cause any more damage.

Another historical building is located about 500 m north-west of the water bridge.

The "historic railway bridge" near Nistertal spans the Nistertal with 11 arches and 10 pillars and connects the two elevations Stöffel and Hahn (Hahnkopf).
Some of the pillars stand on foundations up to 11 meters deep.

With a length of 300 m and a height of almost 40 m, at that time the bridge was built without steel reinforcement in concrete (sand and grit was used from the nearby basalt quarries), as a miracle of technology.

Today the historic railway bridge is a listed building and entry is prohibited by the railway police.

At this point, a small stream, the source of which is located between the municipalities of Dreisbach, Stockum-Püschen and Enspel, is led over the former railway line from Nistertal-Erbach to Bad Marienberg through a concrete water bridge.
On the opposite side of the former railway line, the small stream then flows into the Nister near Nistertal-Büdingen.
At a different time of year you can see more of the concrete bridge and the stilts on which the concrete tub was placed, through which the stream now flows.
Nice construction, only you have to know where exactly this bridge can be found, otherwise you quickly walked or cycled past it.
