Waldzell was an independent municipality in the district of Lohr am Main until its dissolution. Since July 1, 1972 Waldzell belongs to the district Main-Spessart and is since May 1, 1978 a district of Steinfeld. The last mayor was Helmut Kohlhepp. The village had (as of 2018) 364 [1] inhabitants with primary residence.

A Würzburg document from May 11, 1342 testifies the place "Celle". 1612 began the construction of the second church by Prince Bishop Julius Echter. The medieval chapel, also called "templum", was rebuilt. 1615, the shrine was built on Gertraudenbrünnlein. In 1616, the construction of the Gertraudenkapelle by Prince-Bishop Julius Echter began. In 1850, the church chapel was extended by a wooden porch. On May 15, 1855, the Gertraudenkapelle received their consecration. In the same year, on May 25, the foundation stone of today's St. Vitus Church was laid. On June 12, 2000, the anniversary Gertraudenfest was celebrated on the occasion of the extension of the Gertraudenkapelle 150 years ago.
