The Hourglass is a monument located in Dunkirk, at the northwestern end of the Grand Large site. Designed by visual artist Séverine Hubard, the monument was erected in 2017 following a contest to commemorate the Battle of Dunkirk at the beginning of the Second World War. This realization comes at the time of the release of the movie Dunkirk which traces this episode. In the intention of the artist, this monument seeks to be a benchmark borrowing the use of concrete blockhouse technique that punctuate the French Atlantic coastline while being a livable place where one finds oneself for s' sit down and take shelter.
