The Rotensteiner Höhenweg is a perfect way to get from the Vals mountain station to the Fane Almen. I would recommend walking in that direction. You have to be sure-footed, sometimes it goes over stone fields. It is marked with dots on the hiking maps on site, so it is rather difficult. In some places it is narrow, always on a slope (no ridge) but it goes down on the other side. You should be (somewhat) free from giddiness.

The Rotensteiner Höhenweg runs from the Valler Jöchl (1920 m) near the mountain station Jochtalbahn to the Peachenjöchel (2201m). From there it goes downhill to the Fanes Alm. The path offers great views of the northwestern Dolomite peaks and the wonderful mountains of the Pfunderer mountains around the Wilde Kreuzspitze and Wurmaulspitz. The trail is not exhausting, but it often crosses steep grassy slopes. Therefore, a certain surefootedness is necessary.

The Rotensteiner Höhenweg offers great views over the entire route and is recommended. However, you should be very sure-footed and free from giddiness. In some places where rockfalls or entire rock avalanches have come off, the path is very narrow and you walk directly on the abyss; partly secured with chains to hold on to.
