The blood oak is outside of Gollingkreut on the road to Halsbach at a crossroads. Despite the large size of the trunk, it has only really become known in recent years.
In the Middle Ages, the oak is said to have been used to hang criminals, which is why it is still called blood oak today.
The trunk has a vertical gap on one side, which is closed with wire mesh. Otherwise the trunk is in good condition.
The first strong branch comes off at a height of about 3 m.
However, despite the steel cable securing, this broke off during a storm in September 2016.
The branch had formed a large part of the crown.
The crown suffered a lot from the loss of the branch.
In 2012, investigations were carried out on the oak and an expert report was drawn up.
However, the breakage of this fully green branch was not foreseeable.
Part of the broken branch is nearby.
The oak grows a little faster than the average.
    In 2002 the waist circumference was 8.32 m, in 2013 it was 8.57 m and in 2017 it was 8.65 m.
In the past 15 years, the oak has grown 2.2 cm in circumference every year.
An age of almost 400 years seems realistic.
The monumental oak is otherwise in good condition, the vitality is still okay.
