The Waldbühne Ahmsen, an open-air theater in the Lower Saxony municipality of Lähden, has been performing amateur plays with Christian content since 1949.One of the founders of the stage was Father Ewald Schürmann, who was also chairman of the stage for many years. Josef Meyer has been in charge of the Waldbühne Ahmsen since 1993. Children's theater has also been performed there since 1964. It is the most popular, non-professional open-air stage in northern Germany with a record number of 63,000 spectators in the 2008 summer season. 300 members in front of and behind the scenes ensure that everything runs smoothly in their free time. For 1.5 million euros, a new grandstand was built in Ahmsen in 2007 and inaugurated on June 9th of that year with a performance of Jedermann by Hugo von Hofmannsthal. Since then, the Waldbühne Ahmsen has seated around 2,000 spectators, including seventy special disabled-friendly seats. All spectator seats are covered. In the last few years, the entire entrance area with the cash desk and gastronomy has been renewed and a new toilet facility has been built. In 2019 and 2020, the players 'changing rooms and the players' home were renovated. The season extends from May to the beginning of September. In 2020, performances were canceled for the first time in the history of the Waldbühne. The entire 2020 season was canceled due to the corona pandemic. In addition to the company's own productions, many guest events also take place on the stage. You can see oldies evenings, musicals, operas, rock concerts, but also pop and folk music evenings.
