In front of Frue Kilde, a swamp source, lies at the southern end of the Fosdalen (Fosdalen) near the church of Lerup and was probably cultivated in the distant past as a natural force.

During the introduction of Christianity, a chapel and later a church were built, after which they were consecrated to Our Lady (Virgin Mary). The place has been visited since antiquity by the sick and the weak in the hope of healing.

On the day of Our Lady, the 8th of September, every year a big "linen market" took place, which lasted several days and on which, among other things, locals and travelers traded with cups and pottery.

Fun and entertainment were also part of the market of the time, so that the pastor Christian Pedersen 1585 filed a complaint with the authorities about "gross rudeness". The authorities moved the market to Skærm and later to Fjerritslev, where around 1700 it is often referred to as the "Maria Messe".
