Maria Loreto in Starý Hrozňatov (German Altkinsberg) in the Okres Cheb Karlovarský kraj in the western Czech Republic, near the city of Cheb, is a Catholic pilgrimage site and a place of grace. Since 1664, the laying of the cornerstone for the place of mercy Maria Loreto and the Twenty-seven Stations of the Cross, Altkinsberg was a much visited place of pilgrimage of the Egerländer and also the population of neighboring Stiftland and the Sechsämterlandes in Bavaria. In 1949, following the Communist Party's seizure of power in Czechoslovakia and the beginning of the Cold War, the decay and partial destruction of Maria Loreto began. When the borders were opened in 1989 after the collapse of the Communist regime, the first Catholics again made their pilgrimage to the ruins of the sanctuary. In 1992, a sponsoring association was founded in the neighboring Bavarian border town of Waldsassen under the leadership of the former Kinsberg resident and manufacturer Anton Hart. In the following years, in cooperation with the Czech authorities, the latter provided for a reconstruction of the dilapidated buildings and a renovation of the remaining parts of the sanctuary. The pilgrimage site is the destination of the modern pilgrim route Via Porta.
