The first church on the site was likely a stave church, built in the early 1100s. The first stone church on the site was probably built in the 1100s or 1200s. In the 1500s, the church was likely rebuilt or replaced by a new building.
The current church in Hov was designed and built by the architect Samuel Enander between 1837 and 1839, and the old stone church that stood on the same site was demolished at the same time.
