Koldinghus offers an interesting glimpse into the history of the Danish-Schleswig border region. The building itself is particularly worth seeing. Constructed on the remains of a burned-down ruin, the intention was to deliberately avoid restoring everything to its original state. Koldinghus Castle, originally built as a fortress, later transformed into a royal residence, and subsequently restored and expanded several times, is today a world-class landmark, not only for its fascinating architecture. The tower also offers a magnificent view.

The old royal castle has a very eventful history – border guard, royal residence, local town hall, burned-out ruin that served as a source of inspiration for many poets and painters, and finally, a restored castle with a museum – all of which are reflected in the architecture, the various rooms, and the exhibitions within the castle.

Elegant knights' rooms, gloomy dungeons and the stories and myths surrounding the castle make a visit an exciting experience for children as well.
