The Langener Waldsee is probably the best known and most popular of the bathing lakes in the Rhine-Main area. A large sandy beach attracts sun worshipers and swimmers alike. It can get really crowded here on summer days. Since Frankfurt Airport is so close, the planes fly so low over the lake, depending on the wind direction, during take-off or landing that you almost think you can touch them. In addition, the Frankfurt Ironman starts here year after year.
