The name of the Rouge River suggests how wildly it appeared to the first pioneers to use it before the road was built and until the 20th century as an important transport link to the mountains. It is still bordered by dense forests on both sides. Today you can take a jet boat on the river for a day trip from the coast to Agness and back, or explore further upriver.
