The Trollblume belongs to the most beautiful and striking representatives of the Hahnenfußgewächse in Central and North-Eastern Europe. The genus Trollis comprises 29 species with the distribution focus East Asia and North America. In Europe, the only species is the Trollblume represented. It inhabits as a perennial plant preferably cool, moist or groundwater meadows, forests or stream edges. Originally the flower was a forest plant. The soils should be rich in humus and loamy. It is a pointer plant for loamy soil. Dry locations with warm soils are not colonized by the Trollblume. Moist mountain meadows are their ideal habitat, in the lowlands you hardly meet them. The altitudes populate them up to 3,000 meters.
