The excavation site is already well signposted from the country road and there are several large parking spaces attached. Follow the directions and get there easily on foot. The excavation site is covered and can be visited all year round. The information boards are multilingual and precisely convey the scientific knowledge of this historical site and surroundings! A guest book is also available so that you can leave your own “imprint” there. There are many seating options at this site and the area + excavation site is also accessible for wheelchair users - or there are disabled parking spaces for cars right next to the excavation site! Overall an absolute highlight and a must visit !! 🤠👍👍👍

Kata Gård is a private farm church from the Viking Age. Archaeologists have made sensational finds here during their excavations. The church's crypt is possibly the oldest surviving room in Sweden. The church ruins were named after a woman's skeleton: At the end of the Viking Age, Kata ruled over the farm belonging to the church. The excavations revealed that Varnhem was Christianized a century before the rest of Sweden. An information building was erected at the excavation site: Here, modern architecture is combined with walls that are thousands of years old. Some tombs, including Kata's tomb, can be seen through panes of glass in the floor.
