The pumping station was built from 1971 to 1973 about two kilometers south of Horumersiel. Its four propeller pumps are capable of pumping a total of 54,000 liters of water from the Hohenstief into the Wangertief per second. Thus, the drainage of the previously merged Siele of Horumersiel, Hohenstiefersiel, Crildumersiel and Hooksiel on the Wangersiel be ensured.
In 2007 the plant was converted to automatic operation. From here, in addition to the main pumping station Wangerland itself, the Unterschöpfwerke Moorland and Wiedel and the Wangersiel are controlled in the neighboring Horumersiel.

The Wangerland pumping station drains the 26,000 hectare catchment area of the spielacht Wangerland via the wangertief into the Mordsee 😁
