Mountain Biking Highlight
With the construction of the railway line Nuremberg - Hersbruck - Schwandorf by the "Privately Privileged Actiengesellschaft der bayerischen Ostbahnen" in 1859 Hersbruck was connected to the railway network and thus experienced a great economic boom. Around the station, which at that time was about one kilometer to the south, between fields and meadows outside the city, a new residential district with numerous industrial enterprises was built. Today, this southern part of the city, the "Ostbahn or Alte Bahn" - which was separated from the old town by the Pegnitz, which is always flooding - has long since grown together with the old town. With the construction of a stone bridge in 1868, the Old Town district was firmly connected to the rest of the city. With the opening of the right Pegnitz line from Nuremberg to Cheb in 1877, the left-hand railway station lost some of its importance. In the same year, both stations received the name additions Hersbruck left and right of the Pegnitz.Today, the five-river cycle path Radler leads to this place. The cycle path follows the course of the Pegnitz over Lauf a.d. Pegnitz, Hersbruck, Happurg with reservoir and swimming lake to Hohenstadt. Between Hersbruck and Hartmannshof, the Five Rivers Cycle Route crosses the center of "Hersbrucker Schweiz".
