Freising (formerly Frigisinga, Frisinga, Freisingen, Freysing, Latin: Frisinga) is a large district town and university city in Bavaria and, alongside Munich, the only major center in the Munich region. It lies on the Isar River approximately 30 kilometers north of Munich. The city was a ducal seat in the first Bavarian tribal duchy and achieved great importance as an early medieval bishopric and later as the center of the Bishopric of Freising. With the rise of Munich and secularization, the city declined in importance. Today, Freising is the administrative center of the Freising district of the same name. Around the former Weihenstephan Abbey are the Weihenstephan Science Center of the Technical University of Munich, as well as the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences and other research and educational institutions. Munich Airport is located directly outside the city gates in the Erdinger Moos. Due to the resulting strong influx of new residents, the city exceeded the 50,000-resident mark by the end of 2016, including secondary residences.Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freising
