On the Falknis from Malans with the Älplibahn
You have to reserve the Älplibahn in advance. This leads you to 1800 meters. Then it's about 2 hours with little difference in altitude over the ridge to the lowest of three lakes. The bottom two are mostly dried out in summer and autumn. Now the real ascent begins. It goes up the Fläscher Tal to the Fläscher Fürggli and then another hour up to the Falknis. The descent is basically the same as the ascent. At Bad you should turn left (instead of over the ridge again) and walk towards Vilan. There is practically no difference in terms of time. The path along lush swamp meadows and the view towards Schesaplana are worth it. Basically, the ascent to the Falknis is rather boring, but the descent offers many beautiful views. A circular hike is hardly possible if you want to return to the starting point in Malan. By the way, there are parking spaces right next to the Älplibahn. These are even free for Älplibahn drivers. Another plus point is the friendly restaurant at the mountain station of the Älplibahn.
