The historic official gate was built in 1553. For more than three centuries it was the administration, court and prison building of the Stadthagen office. In lavish splendor, the building offers magnificent wooden architecture on the panels and uprights. 23 magnificent radiant rosettes adorn the gable ends, and the ship's throats filled with rows of pearls and ribbons are wonderful.
Above the door is a nettle coat of arms with an inscription and above the artfully carved round arch framed with radiant ornaments is the house entrance: "ANNO DNI 1553 H S H D HG".
A lot has been puzzled about these letters, they could mean: "H(anc) S(aluti) H(ominum) D(omum) H(abeat) G(ubernator)" translated: "May this house be for the bailiff for the benefit of the residents are available." Maybe also quite simply: "H(inrick) S(chrader) H(at) D(it) H(ut) G(ebuwet)." or even simpler: "Lord protect this house mercifully".
The half-timbered building, a symbol of the city, has housed the museum since 1963. After extensive renovation work began in 1987, the newly designed Museum Amtspforte was opened in 1992.
