The red and white steel lattice tower with a stair tube and white lantern stands on the banks of the Elbe River on a hexagonal, brick base with a pile foundation. The light was initially powered by a 5th-order lens and a kerosene burner. Due to changes in the Elbe Riverbed and the resulting change in the leading light line, the iron lighthouse had to be relocated nine meters inland in 1905. For this purpose, the tower shaft was moved on rails onto a previously constructed foundation.
In 1927, the Wittenbergen Lighthouse was converted to gas lighting.

It was connected to the electrical grid in 1966.
In the event of a power failure, the power supply in the Tinsdal switchgear automatically switches to a 17.5 kVA emergency generator.

A modern signal light was installed in 1979.
The Wittenbergen Lighthouse was last renovated from autumn 2020 to summer 2021. The stone base was also replastered.

The Graffitti are already worth seeing. And on the water side practiced a saxophonist. More art did not work !!!
