The Rombachhof has a very long history as an old forester's house, in terms of forestry, forestry or rafting. There is also a dark chapter in the history of the building, which is picturesquely situated in the Rohnbach valley. "At the end of the Second World War an entire family was wiped out except for one son who now lives in Brazil". Nobody really knows what happened back then. The (war) files have also been locked away for 100 years and are therefore far from accessible.

Massacre in the forest house

At the beginning of April 1945, when the French troops advanced from Lake Hohlohsee via the Kaltenbronn and the Rohnbachtal into the Enztal, the forester Max Schultheiss, his son Erich, who had been released from the Wehrmacht due to serious war injuries, and a brother of the forester were arrested in the Rohnbach forester's lodge. Although they were civilians, the forester's uniform was their undoing - or luckily. By arresting them, they escaped a massacre that took the lives of nine people eleven days later and that has not been solved to this day.

On the morning of April 25, acquaintances want to help plant potatoes and enter the unusually quiet forester's lodge in Rohnbachtal for this time - an abyss of horrific images opens up in front of them.

The following are found murdered: Mina Schultheiss, the forester's wife (44) and her two daughters, Marie-Luise (9) and Margarete (14), her brother Eugen Schultheiss (64), his daughter Franziska Schreuers (25), the Niece Mrs. Nollenberger and their children Rotraud (4) and Eberhard (2). Franziska's four-month-old baby is still alive, despite severe head injuries, but dies four days later. Only the forester's seven-year-old son survived - he curled up in his bed and was unharmed.

Almost a year later, Max Schulteiß returns from captivity to the Rombachtal, where the Schulhots family of foresters has had their home for almost 200 years.

Today, a memorial stone on the house commemorates the crime and the Schultheissweg reminds us of the family.
